Our People
Our Premium Audit staff is comprised of Certified Insurance Premium Auditors (CIPAs), Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriters (CPCUs), Associates in Premium Auditing (APAs), and Certified Public Accountants (CPAs). All staff members are full-time employees and are strategically located throughout West Virginia.
Patrick C. Smith, CPA, Member in Charge
John Stike, APA, CIPA, Director of Premium Audit
Upon graduating from Concord College, John began his career in 1985 with Armfelt and Associates. John has over twenty years of premium audit and loss control experience, and has worked for both fee audit companies and insurance carriers. Prior to joining SCH Insurance Services, John was the Premium Audit Operations Manager for BrickStreet Insurance, which is the successor to the West Virginia Workers Compensation Commission. During his tenure, he was instrumental in the transition of BrickStreet’s Premium Audit Department from a state agency to its current state. Prior to becoming the Premium Audit Operations Manager with BrickStreet, John served as a Senior Underwriter.
John has successfully attained both the Associate in Premium Auditing (APA) and Certified Insurance Premium Auditor (CIPA) designations.
Mike Harris, AU, Review Supervisor
Mike attended both Marshall University and West Virginia State College prior to joining the West Virginia Bureau of Employment Programs Workers Compensation Division as an Underwriter. Mike later served in the same role with both the West Virginia Workers Compensation Commission and its successor, BrickStreet Insurance. Mike has over ten years’ experience in Underwriting and brings a wealth of knowledge to our review team. Mike has also served in the West Virginia Air National Guard as an Administrative Specialist, Weather Observer and Forcaster, reaching the enlisted rank of Staff Sergent.
Mike holds an Associate in Commercial Underwriting (AU) certificate from the Insurance Institute of America.
Tonya Whitehair, Review Supervisor
Tonya attended both Marshall University and West Virginia State College, and earned her BS in Accounting in 1994. Tonya has over ten years’ experience in both public and private industry accounting. She has extensive payroll and income tax experience, and gained valuable experience while serving as a Tax Examiner for the West Virginia Bureau of Employment Programs. In this role, Tonya performed a significant amount of unemployment and workers compensation premium audits. Tonya also worked as a staff accountant with Woomer, Nistendirk and Associates prior to joining SCH Insurance Services.
Tonya successfully passed the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) examination in 2002.
